All Students:

Types of counseling at Holy Family Academy:
  • Individual counseling provides a confidential and nonjudgmental setting in which students are able to speak about their issues or concerns. The counselor and student work together to cope with personal, social, and school related issues.
  • Group counseling gives counselors the opportunity to discuss important issues, observe student behavior, and allow students to interact and relate to their peers.
  • The guidance department has continuous contact with teachers and parents to provide insights on a students' behavior and patterns of change.
  • " The student's role in the counseling relationship is to be open and honest
Academic Support includes:
  • One on One extra help with the teachers after class time
  • NHS peer tutoring program
  • Participation in Chapter 192- after school enrichment program
  • Individual counseling sessions with guidance counselor to develop study skills, work on organization, and set academic goals
  • Weekly progress reports reviewed and mailed home
  • Conduct meetings with parents, teachers, and counselor
  • Phone calls to parents
  • Monitor progress
Freshman

  1. Individual appointments
  2. Transition Workshops focusing on:
    • The sessions focus on HFA's academic policy, and importance of grades and activity involvement
    • Development of appropriate studying habits and test taking skills
    • Identification of learning styles
    • Reinforcement of time management and organizational skills
    • Overcoming adversity
    • Conflict resolution

Sophomore
  1. Individual appointments
  2. Career Guidance
    • To become familiar with a variety of careers through research
    • Complete an educational plan
    • Identify interests, abilities, and work values through self assessment
    • Complete an interest inventory
    • Career projects and presentations
    • Relate school courses to occupational fields
    • Exploration of work Environments
    • Networking, Writing a Resume, Cover Letters, the Interview Process
    • College Preparation

Junior

    • Classroom sessions with all Juniors to explain college selection and application
    • Parent presentation on college selection and application
    • Individual appointments with student and parent to discuss post secondary plans
    • Mock application with all Junior students
    • Prepare students to develop an activities resume SAT Preparation
    • Student and parent awareness
    • Practice test
    • Software available in room 24
    • Distribution of 10 Real SATs
    • Available programs- courses and websites
